Lately everyone has been talking about the double cleansing method. Did you know that this practice has been around for centuries? The two-step cleansing method was used by the Japanese geishas to wash their heavy, paint-like make-up off their faces.

But what exactly is the double cleansing method? The first step of the double cleanse method is an oil-based cleanser to remove make-up & sebum. The second step is a facial wash to remove impurities.

There are two types of impurities that lodge onto our skin:
  1. Oil-based substances like make-up & excess sebum.
  2. Water-based substances like dead skin cells, bacteria, dust & perspiration.

The double cleansing method is not just a hype; it is actually a well proven cleansing technique. We all learned the principle of "like dissolves like" in our chemistry classes. Therefore oil-based impurities can effectively be removed using oil-based cleansers, the same way water-based impurities can be removed by water-based foams.

Oil-based cleansers contain beneficial plant oils that cleanse your pores gently and effectively. Face washes and foams remove remaining impurities & deeply purify your skin.

You might be thinking that if you don't wear make-up today, you don't need to do the double cleansing method. A facial wash would be enough, right? But this is where you are mistaken. Remember that all skin types tend to get oilier during the day. Therefore, using an oil-based cleanser is still recommended. Accumulated sebum & impurities, leading to wrinkles and dull skin, can be removed.

For best results with the double cleansing method, remember these tips: it is important to gently massage your face in circular motion to dissolve impurities and draw them out from within the skin. It also helps to promote blood circulation making your skin healthier. Rinse your face with lukewarm water. Neither hot water, which dries and tightens your skin, nor cold water, which closes your pores and traps residues, is ideal.

The double cleansing method might sound time-intensive, but keep in mind that a clean skin is the key to a healthy one. And soon you will see a much softer, smoother and more radiant complexion.
